Diga Nord
Montecarlo – Principality of Monaco
Resistance and beauty for a valuable project
A dam that recalls the shape of a boat and the design challenge with curved and customized wooden materials.
Project
objective
The area of the Marina di Nord di Montecarlo in the principality of Monaco provided for the development of an important real estate project that was oriented at the design level to the world of boating and the sea. The location of the work was close to the sea and therefore the need for extreme strength and durability of the coatings was a fundamental requirement. The second requirement was the absence of maintenance. Finally, due to the ethical propensity of the client, the natural propensity brought the demand for the use of natural materials, among which wood was a fundamental part.
Type
of intervention
In the first design phase the hypothesis of using wood had been discarded as considered less durable than other materials such as aluminum. In the decision-making phase, thanks to the technical performance guaranteed by Accoya, it became clear that only this material could guarantee a facade durability of at least 50 years without maintenance even in a marine environment. The product was also successful for its easy workability that allowed it to follow the curvatures of the building that in a logic of aesthetic continuity have allowed to create a unique spectacular effect. The installation was performed with positioning of the individual elements fixed on the warp with warehouses of Accoya.
