Hyppo Zone
Montecarlo (MN)
Two steps suspended in the enchantment of Monaco
Inside the zoo of Monte Carlo there is a suspended walkway that crosses the pool of hippos. The project was approved by the royal family to ennoble this area of the theme park.
Project
objective
The project objective was to rebuild the walkways of the zoo “Ranieri III” located near the southern slope of the Rocca di Montecarlo in the principality of Monaco. The Zoo was created in 1954 by Prince Rainier III and houses about 250 animals belonging to about fifty different species: exotic birds, turtles, caimans, hippos, reptiles, primates, farm animals. None of the pets were bought! In fact, the Munich Zoo has the distinction of accommodating animals that have been donated, abandoned or confiscated at customs controls. Finally, when the structures of the park no longer allow for good living conditions, the animals are then transferred to more suitable structures, such as in the case of the white rhino.
Type
of intervention:
In the crossing of the “Hippo zone” it was necessary to use only natural materials given the particular general context of the location to limit the impact of unsustainable elements. The various walkways suspended from the ground are paths made with natural Accoya boards properly fixed on guides supported by cables and protected by natural materials such as ropes as a function of parapets to ensure the walk safely and without weigh down the structure. The walkways used in the traditional version do not require maintenance and guarantee a very long durability and stability even in a marine environment .
material. The material chosen are planks of Accoya ³ designed and left in the natural state.
